SUMMARY:November TY BaseCamp - (Valencia)
DESCRIPTION:SailCoach TY BaseCamp – November 2025\, Valencia\, Spain\nSailCoach’s TY BaseCamp has become a long standing and highly respected program among Irish families\, known for providing a unique and transformative experience during Transition Year. Trusted by parents and loved by the students who take part\, it’s widely regarded as a “must” for any young sailor looking to make the most of this special school year. Held at our Valencia SailBase\, the October 2025 edition offers an ideal opportunity to build racing skills\, grow in confidence\, and live independently in a supportive environment. The program is also open to international sailors who wish to join for an extended block of structured training alongside their Irish peers. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhile originally designed with Irish TY students in mind\, the program is also open to motivated young sailors from other countries who are eager to train alongside their peers. We typically welcome sailors aged 15 to 16\, with a focus on ILCA 4 and ILCA 6 racing. \n\nWhy Join A TY BaseCamp?\nWe understand that many TY students would like to use this flexible school year to advance their sailing skills\, work toward selection for the Irish Sailing Academy\, or simply gain life experience away from home in a structured\, supportive environment.\n\nThe TY BaseCamp is designed to provide a comprehensive experience:\n\nHigh-level ILCA training\nExposure to full-time athlete routines\nSupportive mentoring by professional coaches\nDevelopment of independence\, discipline\, and self-confidence\nAge-appropriate fitness training to support overall well-being\n\nWhether a sailor aims to make the leap to national or international competition or is simply seeking personal growth\, the TY BaseCamp provides the foundation.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPre-Entry Experience\n\n\n\n\nThe TY BaseCamp is designed for sailors who are highly motivated to improve their racing skills and take a meaningful step toward national level performance. While most participants sail ILCA Dinghies\, we also welcome those transitioning from other youth classes such as Topper\, 29er\, or 420. To ensure safety and training values\, sailors should be confident sailing in 16 to 20 knots of wind on the open sea. We value varied sailing pathways and experiences in experience and background—what matters most is a shared commitment to progress and a passion for dinghy racing.\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSailCoach’s Coaching Philosophy\nAt SailCoach\, we believe sailing is more than a sport\, and it’s a transformative journey. Our TY BaseCamp focuses not only on sailing performance but also on character development\, resilience\, and life readiness.\n\n\nWe aim to:\nInspire young people through a structured yet adventurous program\nSupport the development of confidence\, leadership\, and decision-making\nEquip students with skills that will serve them well in sport\, school\, and life\n\n\nWe measure success by both sailing progression and personal growth. Our coaches are passionate about mentoring the next generation of sailors and helping them realise their full potential.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe aim to give young TY students an unforgettable experience that will stay with them for life. For us\, sailing is more than just a sport\, it’s a way to help young people grow and learn. While we offer high-quality race training\, we also focus on building character\, confidence\, and self-belief\, both on and off the water. \nAt SailCoach\, we want to make a lasting difference in the lives of the young sailors we work with. We don’t just measure success by results on the racecourse\, but also by the personal progress our TY students make. Our coaches believe that every young person has the potential to succeed and discover what they’re truly capable of. During Transition Year\, we help them develop important life skills that support success in school\, including the Leaving Cert\, and beyond. Our aim is to give them the tools they need for a bright and confident future. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA typical day\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEach day at TY BaseCamp follows a structured routine designed to help students get the most out of their training\, while also supporting their well-being and independence. \nThe morning begins with students preparing their own breakfast and packed lunch in their shared accommodation\, helping build practical life skills. They then head to the SailBase for a physical activation session led by our in-house Strength & Conditioning coach\, with exercises tailored to suit their age and fitness level. \nBefore heading out on the water\, the coaching team holds a short briefing to set the goals for the day and outline the training plan based on the weather conditions. The afternoon is spent on the water\, focusing on racing skills and boat handling in ILCA Dinghies\, with sessions typically lasting two to three hours.\n \n  \nOnce back ashore\, sailors take part in a recovery session\, which might include light stretching\, swimming\, or even an ice bath\, depending on the day’s intensity. The group then comes together for a debrief to reflect on the day’s training and highlight key learning points. \nEvenings are relaxed and social. Students have dinner together at a nearby restaurant and wind down before lights out\, ready to do it all again the next day. The balance of hard work\, structured routine\, and down time helps students develop discipline\, build friendships\, and stay motivated throughout the camp.\n \n\nBeyond Sailing\nWhile the focus of TY BaseCamp is on developing sailing and life skills\, we also believe it’s important for students to enjoy new experiences and create lasting memories. In the evenings\, the group is fully supervised by our staff as they eat out together in local restaurants\, giving them a safe and structured opportunity to enjoy Spanish culture\, relax\, and socialise in a supportive environment. \nTo keep things fun and varied\, we organise occasional activities like go-karting\, paintball\, “escape room” challenges\, and trips into the city\, where students can explore\, soak up the atmosphere\, and even pick up a few souvenirs for granny. These shared moments add to the sense of adventure\, build friendships\, and give students a well-rounded and unforgettable Transition Year experience.

SUMMARY:TY Performance BaseCamp (Malta)
DESCRIPTION:SailCoach has created the December TY Performance BaseCamp for students who would like to take part in an extended training period\, which will finish with an international regatta\, the Malta Europa Cup\, in mind. We extend a warm welcome to sailors from other countries who wish to join this group of 15 and 16-year-olds\, focusing on ILCA 4 and ILCA 6 sailing. Our TY Performance BaseCamp is based at the Seabank Hotel\, Mellieha Bay\, Malta. Designed for talented club sailors aged 15 and over who have been active in their national youth sailing circuits or Optimists sailors looking to transition to the ILCA Class.  \nThis intensive TY Performance BaseCamp is designed to take your sailing to the next level\, with a strong focus on boat preparation\, incorporating the latest class developments\, fine-tuning sail settings\, and mastering advanced boat handling techniques such as roll-tacks\, roll-gybes\, and efficient mark roundings. The ILCA Performance BaseCamp will place particular emphasis on refining upwind and downwind speed through detailed on-water drills and in-depth video analysis. \nAt SailCoach\, we’ve long championed the concept of multi-national training\, a model we pioneered years ago. This program brings together ambitious young sailors from different countries\, creating a competitive\, collaborative environment where they can push each other to improve. It also gives participants the chance to work with world-class ILCA coaches\, many of whom have supported Team SailCoach at multiple Olympic Games. \nEach day combines targeted classroom sessions with focused on-water exercises\, providing a balance of theory\, practice\, and healthy competition. Tactical and strategic decision-making will be discussed during daily debriefs\, with individual feedback and video reviews helping sailors gain a clear understanding of how to improve their performance.\nSeabank Hotel\, Mellieħa Bay\, on Malta’s largest sandy beach \n\n\n\n\n\n\n      \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPre Clinic Entry Experience\n\n\n\n\nThe TY Performance BaseCamp welcomes sailors with a strong motivation to enhance and refine their racing skills\, aiming to take a substantial leap toward elevating their national standards. Participants are not restricted to regular ILCA Dinghy sailors; we extend our invitation to those originating from national youth classes such as Topper\, 29er\, and 420. However\, it is essential that they possess the capability to sail in 18 to 20 knots of wind on the open sea. Our program values diversity and embraces sailors from various backgrounds and experiences who share a common goal of advancing their racing abilities. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSailCoach’s Coaching Philosophy\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe are dedicated to inspiring young individuals through an unforgettable adventure that leaves a lasting imprint on their lives. Sailing transcends the realm of leisure activity\, it serves as a powerful catalyst for personal transformation. Our goal extends beyond providing top race training\, it encompasses the development of character\, confidence\, and self-esteem\, both on and off the water. \nAt SailCoach\, we are committed to making a lifelong impact on everyone we encounter. We measure our success not solely by sailing achievements but also by the personal growth and achievements of our TY students. Our coaches are firm believers in the potential of all young people to succeed and realise their true capabilities. During their school transition year\, we aim to equip them with a valuable set of life skills\, enabling them to excel in various aspects of life\, including academic success in the Leaving Cert. Our goal is to empower them for a bright and promising future. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA typical day\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe day will start at 08:30\, with students having their breakfast in the hotel restaurant and then meeting at 10:30 on the beach in front of the hotel for a physical training activation session. These physical training sessions will be conducted by our in-house S&C coaches\, with care being taken that the exercises are suitable for that age group\, ensuring their safety. \nA briefing will follow what the coach plans for the day’s sailing sessions and point out the areas where the coach intends to focus\, considering the prevailing weather conditions. After a short lunch\, students will go afloat for the race training session\, which could last between two to three hours\, again depending on the weather forecast. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAfter sailing\, the S&C coach will take control of the group\, running a recovery session that sometimes involves an ice bath or swims. There will be a debrief on the day’s activities either before or after dinner at a hotel restaurant. There will be some time set aside in the evening to relax before bed by 22:30… then it will start all over again. \nProgram:\n\n1st of December 2025: (arrival day)\nArrive into Malta Airport (MLA) between 08:00 hrs and 22:00 hrs and be met by one of SailCoach’s friendly staff. This will be followed by a briefing on what the coach plans for the days sailing sessions\, pointing out the areas where the coach intends to focus\, taking into consideration the prevailing weather conditions. \nAfter lunch\, there will be a debrief on the morning session\, followed by a briefing for the afternoon session. Depending on the venue and the weather forecast\, the coach may decide to run one longer session instead of two shorter sessions. \nThe fitness coach will take control of the group again after sailing\, running a cool down session which sometimes involves an ice bath or a swim. Again\, depending on the venue\, there will be a debrief on the days activities either before or after dinner. There will be some time set aside in the evening to relax before bed… the next day\, it starts all over again! \nSailCoach hopes you’ll be as excited as we are about this ILCA 4 New Year Clinic. SUMMARY:March TY BaseCamp Programme - Valencia
DESCRIPTION:SailCoach TY BaseCamp – March 2025\, Valencia\, Spain\nSailCoach’s TY BaseCamp has become a long standing and highly respected program among Irish families\, known for providing a unique and transformative experience during Transition Year.
