Many would say it’s the best place to sail in the Mediterranean at this time of year. With Winner Optimist boats and expert coaching\, sailors will gain valuable on-the-water experience\, working on their speed\, sailing techniques\, and sail tuning. Meanwhile\, parents can enjoy Malta’s lively culture and historic charm\, with plenty to see and do around the island. \nObjectives:\nWe understand that high performance comes from dedicated hours on the water. Our clinic is designed to provide just that\, with expert coaches helping sailors become smarter and faster Optimist sailors. Through on-the-water drills to improve boat handling\, focused race training to develop race strategy\, and individual video analysis to give personalised feedback\, this clinic will equip participants with the skills and knowledge they need to excel. \nPre-Entry Experience:\nThis clinic is tailored for boys and girls aged 7 to 15 who have been racing for at least two years and are ready to embark on international competition or enhance their sailing skills for success on their national circuit. \nThe Program: \n26th October 2025: (arrival day)\nArrive at into Malta International Airport (MLA) and be met by SailCoach’s friendly coaching staff member\, and they will take you to your hotel or SailCoach’s Malta SailBase at the Royal Malta Yacht Club\, the venue for the Optimist High-Performance Clinic. \n27th to the 31st of October 2025 (clinic days)\nFrom the 28th to the 31st of October\, each day of the Pre Optimist Worlds Clinic will feature a group briefing at 10:00 hrs in the Royal Malta Yacht Club\, followed by comprehensive training activities until 17:30 hrs. \n1st of November 2025: (departure day)\nSailCoach staff will drop you off at Malta Airport between 08:00 hrs and 22:00 hrs for your journey home after some quality training. \nBooking Information:\nTo participate in the Optimist High-Performance Clinic at our Malta SailBase\, located in Malta\, from the 26th of October (arrival day) to the 1st of November 2025 (departure day)\, we offer a comprehensive package price. DESCRIPTION:Gold Standard October High-Performance ILCA 6 and ILCA 7 Clinic aims to provide a platform for sailors who consistently rank within the top 10% of their National fleet or aspire to become a National Team sailor. This intensive six day clinic is designed specifically for talented club sailors aged 16 and above\, offering them ILCA Dinghy specific training tailored to their individual needs with ample opportunities to sail against international sparring partners. \nWhat’s involved\n \nThe clinic is designed to help top ILCA 6 and ILCA 7 sailors improve their performance against like-minded training partners. The focus will be on bringing a group of people together of a similar standard that is able to push each other to a new level. The clinic will work on developing both upwind and downwind speed\, using detailed video analysis for feedback. \nAt SailCoach\, we strongly believe in the value of multi-national training\, which we started many years ago. This intensive one-week clinic gives sailors the chance to compete against others from different countries\, helping them to push their limits. It also offers young sailors a unique opportunity to be coached by highly experienced ILCA dinghy coaches\, including those who have been part of Team SailCoach at multiple Olympic events. \nThe clinic will mix classroom lessons with on-water exercises\, creating healthy competition. These sessions will be followed by debriefs focusing on tactics and strategy. Sailors will receive individual attention both on the water and through video analysis. \nA typical day\nDepending on the weather conditions\, the day will start with a physical training activation session\, sometimes before breakfast and sometimes after. These physical training sessions will be conducted by our in-house fitness coaches\, with care being taken to ensure that the exercises are suitable for that age group and to ensure the safety of the sailors taking part in the sessions. This will be followed by a briefing on what the coach plans for the days sailing sessions\, pointing out the areas where the coach intends to focus\, taking into consideration the prevailing weather conditions. \nAfter lunch\, there will be a debrief on the morning session\, followed by a briefing for the afternoon session. Depending on the venue and the weather forecast\, the coach may decide to run one longer session instead of two shorter sessions. \nThe fitness coach will take control of the group again after sailing\, running a deactivation session which sometimes involves an ice bath or a swim. Again\, depending on the venue\, there will be a debrief on the days activities either before or after dinner. The ILCA 4 High-Performance Clinic will look hard at developing upwind and downwind speed with extensive video analysis. \nAt SailCoach\, we have a strong belief in the multi-national training concept\, which we pioneered many years ago. As a result\, this intensive one-week training program offers sailors the chance to challenge themselves against competitors from various countries. Additionally\, it provides young sailors with a unique opportunity to receive coaching from highly experienced ILCA dinghy coaches\, some of whom have been part of the Team SailCoach squad at multiple Olympic events. \nThe clinic’s daily schedule will combine classroom lessons with on the water exercises offering healthy competition and is followed up with debrief of tactical and strategy situations. DESCRIPTION:The 2025 ILCA U21 Europeans will be held in the town of Split\, Croatia\, from Saturday\, 18th of October\, 2025\, to Saturday\, 25th of October\, 2025. We at SailCoach have been offering “Coaching Tours” for over 30 years. As a result\, we have the experience that brings the confidence you can rely on for this important regatta. \nComprehensive Coaching Package\nBy signing up with SailCoach\, you get a dedicated\, skilled coach who\, in most cases\, has campaigned at the Olympic level. These “Coaching Tours” offer small coaching support groups\, with a target group size of six sailors. We aim to provide a complete package\, including airport transfers\, accommodation\, and outstanding coaching\, with an extra add-on option for an ILCA charter boat. All you have to do is enter the regatta and book your flights\, which can be a more straightforward process. \nLearning Goals\nAt this Championship\, the SailCoach team will focus on improving your regatta preparation skills. Our coaches will work with you daily\, setting up a structured plan and goals for the upcoming regatta. You’ll learn important details about preparing for events\, ensuring you’re informed and ready. \nAdditionally\, our coaches will teach you how to adapt to the different weather conditions and handle the pressures of high-level competition. Having the right preparation is a must when going into an important championship. These pre-regatta days will also help you get to know our coaches\, a significant advantage when racing begins. \n20th to 25th of October 2025\nRacing begins in the ILCA U21 Europeans\, promising to be a tough event. Ahead lies six days of racing\, with the first three being qualifying rounds\, after which fleets get divided into gold\, silver\, and bronze\, with the newly allotted fleets fighting it out over the last three days. DESCRIPTION:Pre-Clinic Entry Experience\nThe focus of this Performance Summer Camp is set up to provide a platform for sailors who have been active in their national youth sailing circuits or Optimists sailors who would like to make the transition to the ILCA Dinghy. Alternatively\, for talented club sailors aged 15 and over. \nWhat’s involved\nThe Performance Summer Camp is designed to help improve boat preparation with the most recent developments in the class\, sail settings and advanced boat handling skills\, including roll-tacking\, roll-gybing and mark roundings. This Summer Camp will look hard at developing both Upwind and Downwind speed with extensive use of video analysis. \nSailCoach believes strongly in the multi-national training concept\, which we developed many years back. Therefore\, this Summer Camp of hard training will give sailors the opportunity to push themselves hard against competitors from other countries.
 It will also provide young sailors with the opportunity to be coached by the most experienced ILCA coaches available\, including coaches who have been members of the Team SailCoach squad at different Olympics. \nThe clinic’s daily schedule will combine classroom lessons with on the water exercises offering healthy competition and is followed up with debriefing of tactical and strategy situations. Sailors will receive individual attention both on the water and with video analysis. \nA typical day\nThe day will start with a physical training warm-up session\, sometimes before breakfast and sometimes after. Our strength and conditioning coach will conduct these physical training sessions\, with care being taken that the exercises are suitable for that age group and to ensure the safety of the sailors taking part in the sessions. This will be followed by a briefing on what the coach plans for the days sailing sessions\, pointing out the areas where the coach intends to focus\, taking into consideration the prevailing weather conditions. \nDepending on the venue and the weather forecast\, the coach may decide to run one longer session instead of two shorter sessions. \nThe S&C coach will then take control of the group again after sailing\, running a cool-down session which sometimes involves an ice bath or swim. Again\, depending on the venue\, there will be a debrief on the days activities either before or after dinner. There will be some time set aside in the evening to relax before bed… the next day\, it starts all over again! \nProgram:\n\n2nd August 2025: (arrival day)\nArrive into Valencia Airport (VLC) between 08:00 hrs and 22:00 hrs and be met by one of SailCoach’s friendly staff. DESCRIPTION:Pre-Clinic Entry Experience\nThe focus of this Performance Summer Camp is set up to provide a platform for sailors who have been active in their national youth sailing circuits or Optimists sailors who would like to make the transition to the ILCA Dinghy. Alternatively\, for talented club sailors aged 15 and over. \nWhat’s involved\nThe Performance Summer Camp is designed to help improve boat preparation with the most recent developments in the class\, sail settings and advanced boat handling skills\, including roll-tacking\, roll-gybing and mark roundings. This Summer Camp will look hard at developing both Upwind and Downwind speed with extensive use of video analysis. \nSailCoach believes strongly in the multi-national training concept\, which we developed many years back. Therefore\, this Summer Camp of hard training will give sailors the opportunity to push themselves hard against competitors from other countries.
 It will also provide young sailors with the opportunity to be coached by the most experienced ILCA coaches available\, including coaches who have been members of the Team SailCoach squad at different Olympics. \nThe clinic’s daily schedule will combine classroom lessons with on the water exercises offering healthy competition and is followed up with debriefing of tactical and strategy situations. Sailors will receive individual attention both on the water and with video analysis. \nA typical day\nThe day will start with a physical training warm-up session\, sometimes before breakfast and sometimes after. Our strength and conditioning coach will conduct these physical training sessions\, with care being taken that the exercises are suitable for that age group and to ensure the safety of the sailors taking part in the sessions. This will be followed by a briefing on what the coach plans for the days sailing sessions\, pointing out the areas where the coach intends to focus\, taking into consideration the prevailing weather conditions. \nDepending on the venue and the weather forecast\, the coach may decide to run one longer session instead of two shorter sessions. \nThe S&C coach will then take control of the group again after sailing\, running a cool-down session which sometimes involves an ice bath or swim. Again\, depending on the venue\, there will be a debrief on the days activities either before or after dinner. There will be some time set aside in the evening to relax before bed… the next day\, it starts all over again! \nProgram:\n\n15th July 2025: (arrival day)\nArrive into Valencia Airport (VLC) between 08:00 hrs and 22:00 hrs and be met by one of SailCoach’s friendly staff. There are also plenty of beaches and parks to explore and a vibrant nightlife. \nUseful hotel information:\nSailCoach’s Valencia SailBase is located at the Real Club Náutico de Valencia\, known locally as Club Náutico (if you take a taxi) in the neighbourhood of Poblats Marítims\, approximately 2 km along from the well-known City of Arts and Sciences. The Ilunion Aqua 3 and 4 hotels are reasonably priced and the nearest to the Valencia SailBase. Bed & Bike Marina is an apartment complex that we use from time to time\, which is ideal for short stays. \nThere are a number of modern hostels\, with the nearest one to SailCoach’s Valencia SailBase being Urban Youth Hostel in the vicinity of the old America’s Cup harbour and about 20 minutes by bicycle to the SailBase. As a result\, this intensive one-week training program offers sailors the chance to challenge themselves against competitors from various countries. Additionally\, it provides young sailors with a unique opportunity to receive coaching from highly experienced ILCA dinghy coaches\, some of whom have been part of the Team SailCoach squad at multiple Olympic events. \nThe clinic’s daily schedule will combine classroom lessons with on the water exercises offering healthy competition and is followed up with debrief of tactical and strategy situations. Sailors will receive individual attention both on the water and with video analysis. \nA typical day\nDepending on the weather conditions\, the day will start with a physical training warm-up session\, sometimes before breakfast and sometimes after. These physical training sessions will be conducted by our in-house fitness coaches\, with care being taken that the exercises are suitable for that age group and to ensure the safety of the sailors taking part in the sessions. This will be followed by a briefing on what the coach plans for the days sailing sessions\, pointing out the areas where the coach intends to focus\, taking into consideration the prevailing weather conditions. \nAfter lunch\, there will be a debrief on the morning session\, followed by a briefing for the afternoon session. Depending on the venue and the weather forecast\, the coach may decide to run one longer session instead of two shorter sessions. \nThe fitness coach will take control of the group again after sailing\, running a cool down session which sometimes involves an ice bath or a swim. Therefore\, we recommend you continue to train and compete regularly to hone these techniques and skills. \nA typical day\nThe day would start with a morning briefing\, looking over the weather forecasting and communicating anything important from the coaches meeting and specific points to note for the days racing. The SailCoach coaches will offer you coaching support afloat\, such as towing if necessary to get to the starting line. Carry any bags with food and spare parts\, along with a jacket to keep warm between races. \nThe day finishes with a post-race debrief and discussion of the day’s events. However\, we will be there to support you during protests if all else fails. \nNumbers will be limited on this coaching tour\, so you are advised to book early. \nProgram: \n30th June 2024\nArrive at Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport Porto (OPO) and be met by SailCoach’s friendly coaching staff member\, they will take you to the Clube de Vela de Viana do Castelo\, the venue for this year’s championship. \n1st and 2nd July 2024\nFamiliarisation days\, SailCoach will be training at the regatta venue for several days before the event. It gives sailors a chance to get over any jet lag and gain valuable knowledge of the area. Our coaches will help you develop a “Game Plan” strategy and provide you with video analysis that may perfect your boat handling and speed. Having the right preparation is a must going into an important championship. These pre-regatta days will also help you get to know our coaches\, a significant advantage when racing begins. \n3rd to 8th July 2024\nRacing starts in the ILCA U21 Worlds\, in what promises to be a tough event\, ahead lies six days of racing\, with the first three being qualifying rounds\, after which fleets get divided into gold\, silver\, and bronze. With the newly allotted fleets fighting it out over the last three days. However\, don’t worry\, SailCoach’s experienced coaching staff will be there with you giving you all the support you need on and off the water to help you reach your goals. \n9th July 2024\nA member of the SailCoach staff will drop you off at Porto Airport (OPO) for your journey home\, hopefully with a trophy or two under your belt. DESCRIPTION:Join SailCoach for an exciting Pre ILCA 4 Worlds Training Camp at our Valencia SailBase\, designed to provide a platform for sailors aged 15 and over who are preparing for this year’s ILCA 4 World Championships. \nWhat’s involved\nThe Pre-Worlds Training Camp is designed to help improve boat preparation with the most recent developments in the class\, sail settings\, and advanced boat handling skills\, including roll-tacking\, roll-gybing\, and mark roundings. The Pre-Worlds Training Camp will look hard at developing upwind and downwind speed with extensive video analysis. \nAt SailCoach\, we have a strong belief in the multi-national training concept\, which we pioneered many years ago. As a result\, this intensive nine-day training program offers sailors the chance to challenge themselves against competitors from various countries. Additionally\, it provides young sailors with a unique opportunity to receive coaching from highly experienced ILCA dinghy coaches\, some of whom have been part of the Team SailCoach squad at multiple Olympic events. \nThe clinic’s daily schedule will combine classroom lessons with on the water exercises offering healthy competition and is followed up with a debriefing of tactical and strategy situations. Sailors will receive individual attention both on the water and with video analysis. \nA typical day\nDepending on the weather conditions\, the day will start with a physical training warm-up session\, sometimes before breakfast and sometimes after. These physical training sessions will be conducted by our in-house fitness coaches\, with care being taken that the exercises are suitable for that age group and to ensure the safety of the sailors taking part in the sessions. DESCRIPTION:SailCoach has created the May TY BaseCamp with Irish school students in mind. However\, we extend a warm welcome to sailors from other countries who wish to join this group of 15 and 16-year-olds\, focusing on ILCA 4 and ILCA 6 sailing. Our TY BaseCamp is offered four times annually in March\, June\, October\, and November\, based at our SailBases in Malta and Valencia. These Mediterranean SailBases serve as our home for ILCA and Optimist sailors who are passionate about our sport. \nWe understand that a number of TY students would like to use this flexible school year to develop their sailing skills and perhaps get to the required standard to be selected for the Irish Sailing Academy or just learn about life away from home. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe SailCoach TY BaseCamp program offers a unique educational opportunity\, allowing young sailors to immerse themselves in the world of ILCA sailing. This firsthand experience provides valuable insights into the daily routines and practices of top-level coaches and full-time sailors on our team\, fostering character building and personal growth. It often comes as an eye-opener for club level ILCA sailors\, as they witness the dedication and commitment required to excel in this sport. \nDuring the program\, participants can expect a rigorous schedule\, with ILCA coaching sessions conducted 5 to 6 days a week. They will have the privilege of training alongside experienced peers\, benefiting from the camaraderie and competition that this environment fosters. DESCRIPTION:SailCoach has designed this January T Y BaseCamp for Irish school students. However\, other sailors from other countries are also welcome to join this group of 15 and 16 year olds sailing ILCA 4 and ILCA 6. The TY BaseCamp runs four or five times a year in the months of January\, March\, June\, October and November from our Malta and Valencia SailBases. We run the programme from our Mediterranean SailBase in Malta and Valencia\, where we have our SailBase for all kinds of ILCA and Optimist sailors. \nWe understand that a number of TY students would like to use this flexible school year to develop their sailing skills and perhaps get to the required standard to be selected for the Irish Sailing Academy or just learn about life away from home. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Transition Year programme exposes sailors to the culture of a professional ILCA sailor\, allowing them to see firsthand how things are done by the full-time sailors on our team. Their lifestyle alone is an eye-opener for most club-level ILCA sailors. In this environment\, the days are filled with ILCA coaching 5 or 6 days a week\, with good training partners and quality time with our in-house strength and conditioning coach to work on fitness levels. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPre Clinic Entry Experience\n\n\n\n\nThis TY BaseCamp is intended for highly motivated sailors who want to improve and hone their racing skills to make a significant step forward towards improving their national standards. They don’t necessarily need to be regular ILCA Dinghy sailors\, and they can come from national youth classes such as Topper\, 29er and 420. However\, they should be capable of sailing in 20 kn of wind on the open sea. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSailCoach’s Coaching Philosophy\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe endeavour to inspire young people with an unforgettable adventure that makes a lifelong impact. As you may know\, Sailing is more than just a leisure activity\, it is a catalyst that can transform people’s lives. Not only will we give the TY students the very best race training\, but we’ll also help them build confidence and self-esteem\, both on and off the water. \nWe aim to have a lasting\, lifelong impact on everyone we meet. At SailCoach\, we measure our success by our student’s achievements. We remain committed to providing TY students with outstanding coaching while building essential life skills. The SailCoach coaches believe that all young people have the ability to succeed and realise their real potential – we aim to ensure that they have that opportunity during their transition year\, developing a set of skills to help them achieve\, amongst other things\, good grades in the leaving cert. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA typical day\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe day will start at 08:30\, with students making their breakfast and packing lunches for the day in their TY apartment\, then meeting at 10:30 at the Royal Malta Yacht Club for a physical training activation session. These physical training sessions will be conducted by our in-house S&C coaches\, with care being taken that the exercises are suitable for that age group\, ensuring their safety. \nA briefing will follow what the coach plans for the day’s sailing sessions and point out the areas where the coach intends to focus\, considering the prevailing weather conditions. After a short lunch\, students will go afloat for the race training session\, which could last between two to three hours\, again depending on the weather forecast. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAfter sailing\, the S&C coach will take control of the group\, running a recovery session that sometimes involves an ice bath or swims. There will be a debrief on the day’s activities either before or after dinner at a local restaurant. There will be some time set aside in the evening to relax before bed by 22:30… then it will start all over again.
